More Than Pressure Washing: The Story Behind Hometown Power Clean

Some businesses start with a business plan.
Ours started with a teenage boy who liked expensive shoes, dirt bikes, four wheelers, and cars.

At an early age, I noticed my son Landon had a taste for nice things. And honestly, I’ll admit it — I spoiled him quite a bit growing up. But as he got older, my goal shifted from simply giving him things to teaching him something more valuable: if you want the fun things in life, hard work and dedication are what make them possible.

When Landon was 13 years old, he came to work with me for the summer at Custom Express. From day one, he impressed me. He worked hard, stayed focused, learned quickly, and never shied away from getting his hands dirty. It didn’t take long to realize he genuinely wanted to work and earn his own money.

Once summer ended, Landon started looking for a way to make money after school and on weekends. I was excited for him and wanted to help however I could. We started researching different service businesses and eventually came across concrete surface cleaning.

The idea caught our attention immediately.

We spent time researching equipment, techniques, and how the business worked. Then we decided to test things out using a pressure washer I had at work and a few neighbors willing to let Landon practice on their driveways and concrete surfaces.

It didn’t take long before he decided this was exactly what he wanted to pursue.

At first, we built a small pressure washing cart together and hauled it from job to job in my work van. It was simple, but it worked. As more appointments started coming in, we upgraded by converting my old truck into a dedicated pressure washing setup for him.

During those early jobs, I helped whenever I could — but most of the time I found myself standing around while Landon handled the work. Eventually, I talked with him about getting more involved since I was already there at every job anyway.

That’s when we started researching house soft washing.

The more we learned, the more we realized it would be the perfect fit for us to truly work together as a team. We experimented with different setups and systems trying to make things efficient, but nothing seemed to work quite the way we wanted.

So we made the decision to go all in.

We purchased a trailer and built the perfect two-man rig designed for efficiency, professionalism, and teamwork. That setup completely changed the business for us.

Now we work side-by-side on every job. Landon still mainly handles the concrete cleaning while I help rinse and post-treat surfaces, or I’ll soft wash the house while he follows behind rinsing. We’ve figured out how to work together smoothly, and honestly, it’s been a great experiences in my life.

What started as a way for my son to earn money and learn responsibility has turned into something much bigger.

It’s become time spent together. Lessons learned together. A business we’ve built together.

At this point, I can honestly say I have two full-time businesses.

There’s Custom Express, which started 22 years ago with just me and my dad and has now grown into a company employing 43 people.

And then there’s Hometown Power Clean — just my son Landon and me, building something one driveway, one house, and one job at a time.

Who knows how far he’ll take it.

Maybe one day he’ll continue one of the family businesses.
Or maybe he’ll go rogue and build something completely his own.

Either way, I know he’ll understand the value of hard work — and that’s what this journey was really about from the beginning.
